Excel is a spreadsheet processing software and is usually distributed as a part of the Microsoft Office suite. Although practical and capable of many functions, Excel does not have an automated feature to remove hyperlinks from multiple cells.
There is a quick fix to this problem by tricking the program into thinking that you will turn contents of a cell into a number (instead of the hyperlink text), which will remove the hyperlinks. It’s also possible to remove just the visual effect of the hyperlinks, leaving their functionality untouched.
1. Remove Multiple Hyperlinks
· Click on an empty cell, type “1″ and hit “Enter.”
· Right-click on the cell and select “Copy.”
· Press “Ctrl” and then click on each of the cell you want the hyperlink to be removed from.
· Click on the “Edit” menu and select “Paste Special.”
· Click on the “Multiply” radio button in the Paste Special window and click on “OK.”
All of the hyperlinks should be removed.
The text color is returned to the original and the underline gone if you are using the Excel version prior to 2007. You will have to select all of the hyperlink cells again using “Ctrl,” click on the “Cell Styles” option under “Home” section and then select “Normal” so the cells do not look like hyperlinks.
2. Hide Multiple Hyperlinks
If you only need to remove the appearance of a hyperlink while keeping the underlying URL or new e-mail intact, you need to
· select the cells using the “Ctrl” button,
· then click on the “Edit” menu option,
· select “Clear” and click on “Format.”
In Excel 2007, you have to click on the “Cell Styles” option after selecting the hyperlinked cells and select “Normal.” Keep in mind that only the appearance, or the format, of the cell has changed to normal while clicking on a hyperlinked cell will still open either a Web page or a new mail message.
